Project Overview
The birthplace and original headquarters of Wang Computers, The Center at Innovation Drive, is now a 750,000-square-foot mixed-use development that includes laboratory space, R&D space, offices, warehousing, and lifestyle amenities such as a fitness center, doggie daycare, and a fleet of rental bikes. In 2015, The Center commissioned Metro Sign and Awning to create an internally illuminated sign that would welcome visitors and employees in a new way, reimagining the space’s exterior branding and presence. In collaboration with developer Newmark Grubb Knight Frank and our experienced architectural designer, Susan MacGregor, we created an innovative design featuring push-through graphics and a CorTen steel base that will look even better as it ages. Both the top green portion and the lettering illuminate “from within,” making the sign high visible and noticeable. Being somewhat outside of the box, this project required a variance (Special Sign Permit) from the Planning Board, which was easily approved well ahead of installation.
