While COVID-19 has presented incredible challenges across nearly all industries, it also highlights the critical role being played by the signage industry. Much of the pandemic has focused on the visual — visualizing six feet of space between people, glove and mask wearing to protect each other, flattening the curve, graphics and videos of proper handwashing techniques — and creating effective visuals is the hallmark of an exceptional sign company, like Metro Sign and Awning. The Metro team has leveraged industry best practices in developing clear, visual communications that project calm authority while also offering guidance, instruction, and direction, because we recognize the critical need of our clients to communicate during this challenging time. Neon is a dull and invisible gas until it’s trapped in a tube and zapped with electricity. Literally pulled out of thin air, neon became the bright light of the modern world, a symbol of progress, and an essential component of the electronic age.

While Fitchburg State needed updated signs that complied with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations and a visually appealing way to celebrate its 125th anniversary, the University of Massachusetts Boston needed interior signage and more as part of its Renovations to Existing Academic Buildings (REAB) project. This monumental project included construction in McCormack and Wheatley Halls, Healey Library, and Quinn. Much of the renovation involved adapting vacant spaces to accommodate programs from the Science Center. Metro Sign’s contribution to the project included providing wayfinding, directories, and ADA compliant signs. UMass Boston initially provided specifications for a higher-end fabrication. When it was determined that the initial sign design would exceed the funds allotted Metro stepped in to help. Understanding the

As the owner, you may have used some modern branding, such as using social media sites or building your own company website or may have used online advertising. However, it’s also a very good idea to use real-world means to build your business, and one of the best ways to do that is via business signage. A multi-million dollar renovation is underway in Hudson, Massachusetts. Developers are revitalizing the iconic Landing at Hudson Mills for contemporary use. When Mark Development and Manzo-Freeman Development began upgrading the treasured landmark with modern systems, utilities, and finishes, they knew they had to include signage to attract tenants. They called on Metro to build a welcoming focal point for clients and employees visiting the transformed space.  A Sign of the Times  We were excited to work with The Landing at Hudson Mills because the project was two-fold. In a design-build project, a single team completes the project; from design to fabrication to installation. A completed design-build team has major benefits. With a non-design/build approach, the client first works with a designer or architect, then sends the design to a separate fabricator. This relationship doesn’t always work in the client’s best interest, because neither entity is 100% responsible. This often results in needless delays and can result in errors. Design-build solves this problem, which is why we offer it. Here are the benefits clients see as a result: Lower Total Cost and More Accurate Budgeting With a design-build signage process, your initial estimate tends to be more accurate. That’s because there are fewer unknowns when a single supplier
