No Signage Project Too Big at Suffolk University – Higher Education Series Post 3

Suffolk University might also share UMass Boston’s philosophy: Go big, or go home. Although Suffolk wasn’t working on a Renovations to Existing Academic Buildings (REAB) project when they called Metro Sign, they did have an unusual project in mind. Among its requirements for new architectural signage, the university wanted to add a 21 panel, 20-foot high wall mural. This high-pressure laminate (HDP) exterior wall mural required considerable engineering expertise and clear communication and coordination to ensure the seal on the curtain wall and panels would fit into the Z-Clip system. Have you ever arrived at a new location and you’re not quite sure where to go? Or you look at the map — often a freestanding sign — and it

5 Types of Signage No Retailer Can Afford to Ignore

Quality signage is an easy and effective way to drive foot traffic and communicate with your customers when designing your store. However, if done incorrectly, signage can cause overstimulation and even confusion. Signage at your place of business is just as important as your website design and shouldn’t be an afterthought.

Cakes and PVC: What do they have in common?

ote>Vinyl is a standard sign and graphics material, with great results for a whole range of applications. But there is more than one type, and it’s important to choose the correct media for your project.

Grainmaker is Bowled Over with Our Signs

“I passed a new place and it looks pretty cool. We should try it.” How many times has a friend said this? You can’t judge a book by its cover, but you can gather a really favorable first impression from the outside of an eatery. Is it fun or fancy? Healthy or heart attack? Exterior design can be the first draw, even before the menu is posted. That was the case with a recent Metro Sign & Awning project.  Prior to Grainmaker opening a second location at 248 Elm Street in Somerville (the first one was at 91 Summer Street in Boston), owner Chris Freeman contacted us. Things were taking off for the young entrepreneur and he wanted to maintain

The Infinite Possibilities of Vinyl Graphics

New owner of full-service salon sees vibrant results with new logo, new sign When Infinity Hair, a full-service salon and barbershop, was purchased, the new owner needed a new logo and sign. Metro Sign and Awning helped create a bold new look for the business. The owner had several ideas. Metro’s Keene designer took those ideas and developed several concepts as a guide to steer the general direction of the sign. “Once we had picked a basic concept, (designer Kris Arnold) dove in deeper and created a more detailed rendition,” explained Patrick Grizzard, Sales Manager. ‘The result was a stunning vinyl sign using the colors of the rainbow in an intertwined infinity sign.” The Advantages of Vinyl Graphics Grizzard is

Overcoming Signage Restrictions with Creativity and Style

Glass House in Cambridge was working with a visibility issue with respect to its new Kendall Square location. Since the business is set back from the main road, it is not easily seen by prospective diners. The restaurant’s owner and design firm (Hacin + Associates) had some great ideas for encouraging traffic, and they weren’t about to put mediocre signage on the menu. Shortly after calling Metro Sign & Awning, our creative designers and fabricators were able to turn those great sign ideas into reality. The result: compliant signage that’s attractive, highly effective, and – as a bonus – is also mobile.    When Signage Restrictions Are Tough, the Tough Get Creative After investigating several options for internal illumination, it was clear the

2016 The Year in Signs & Signage Project Highlights

Our talented creative team is already hard at work creating signs you’ll see in 2017, but they recently got together to discuss some of their favorite signage projects of 2016.  ADA Signage Required in most buildings, ADA signage must be created and installed according to strict guidelines. At Metro, we strive to create ADA signage that is not only a functional, but also a beautiful, addition to interior design. We enjoy the challenge of designing ADA signage that incorporates elements of our clients brands, that is also compliant and enhances building utilization for all. Awnings Awnings and enclosures can update a business image, invite customers into a new entrance, and serve as new and additional signage. In some cases, helping a
