Soaring With the Eagles

The Boston College Eagles soared to new heights this year as the 156-year-old research university unveiled its new state-of-the-art recreation center. The 244,000-square-foot Margaret Connell Center is complete with something for everyone, from an elevated indoor track to a rock climbing wall and even a golf simulation room. We were honored and excited to collaborate on this facility with Skanska, the world’s fifth-largest construction company, as well as the project architect firm Cannon Design.

Making a Lasting Impact

We’re not too shy to say that our whole team was brimming with pride at the grand opening. It was spectacular to see the beautiful new amenities that Boston College’s student body would now enjoy. Metro Sign & Awning had done its part by outfitting the entire facility with durable, ADA-compliant room id and code compliant signage that perfectly matched the university’s parameters.

Once the completed center was unveiled, we were happy to hear overwhelmingly positive feedback from the Boston College leadership, who loved all of our signs. Our work included ten different types of interior signs as well as the laser cut dimensional lettering dedicating the building to Margaret Connell, a well-loved “matriarch of the BC community” and grandmother of 17.

Turning on a Dime 

Every large-scale project comes with unexpected twists and turns, and this one was no exception. Late in the process, the design team changed the color scheme—however, we kept pace with them and delivered new samples in record time. By the time all approvals were provided, and the required signatures made it to their dotted lines, we faced a tight turnaround for production. Nevertheless, our team pulled through and met the planned completion date in good form. It was an honor to do this work for such a prestigious and historic institution and to collaborate with the all-star teams at Cannon Design and Skanska.
