An Event of Their Own

Others

As much as we love making new signs, sometimes we mourn the loss of one more long-standing neon landmark from our youth. So when the good folks at Lombardo’s Meetings & Occasions approached us about updating their iconic parking lot sign, we knew exactly how the family felt.

Over 35 years, many of us have passed the sign towering above Highway 28 in Randolph, Massachusetts; a beacon of big events from weddings to work conferences. That’s why we shared a few tears with the elder Lombardos watching a part of the original sign come down with cranes earlier this year.

New Sign Design

The decision to update wasn’t easy; with two generations of family members weighing in.  The consensus was, everyone wanted a sign that was consistent with tradition while moving to a more modern style.

Working with Spin350 Creative, they developed new branding and a cleaner logo. From there, Metro took over the manufacturing and installation.

Because the sign is in a high profile location at a long-standing, family-run establishment, the goal was not to reinvent the wheel.

The decision was made to:

  1. Replace the large top and retain the rest. This required a perfect fit and survey so the new cabinet could be retrofitted to existing signposts. Since it had to fit like a glove, precise measurements were crucial.
  2. Save existing message center and sub-cabinets below
  3. Get the lighting correct. The new sign was to be entirely face lit, so balancing was needed to achieve consistent illumination with no shadows.
  4. Keep from interfering with day-to-day customer events. The top cabinet needed to come down and the new one installed with zero interruption to ongoing business.

The Lombardo family was very proud of the end product, surely a landmark for future generations.

Giving this world-class event center the sign it deserves was a privilege and a pleasure. We can create any kind of sign for any situation. If you would like to learn more about how we cater to each customer, see our website or give us a call.
