Critical Role of Signage During the COVID-19 Pandemic

While COVID-19 has presented incredible challenges across nearly all industries, it also highlights the critical role being played by the signage industry.  Much of the pandemic has focused on the visual — visualizing six feet of space between people, glove and mask wearing to protect each other, flattening the curve, graphics and videos of proper handwashing techniques — and creating effective visuals is the hallmark of an exceptional sign company, like Metro Sign and Awning. The Metro team has leveraged industry best practices in developing clear, visual communications that project calm authority while also offering guidance, instruction, and direction, because we recognize the critical need of our clients to communicate during this challenging time. Spreading the Message Whether digital or

Optimizing Higher Education Signage with Metro Sign & Awning

Bookstore Signage

No one likes to get lost! And one of the best ways an institution can help people find their way or get important information quickly and clearly is to employ signage. In fact, signage offers a good tool for higher education settings. Freestanding signs with electronic message center displays (EMC) distribute daily and emergency information efficiently, and wayfinding signs help people navigate campus more easily. Interior signs can reinforce learning by supporting multimedia for lectures or enhance the interdepartmental recognition of student accomplishments by enabling departments to promote their students’ successes. And consistent signage supports both an institution’s branding and elevates its school spirit. Metro Sign has worked with a variety of colleges and universities right here in the heart

Controlling Costs on a Complex UMass Boston Signage Project – Higher Education Series Post 2

While Fitchburg State needed updated signs that complied with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations and a visually appealing way to celebrate its 125th anniversary, the University of Massachusetts Boston needed interior signage and more as part of its Renovations to Existing Academic Buildings (REAB) project. This monumental project included construction in McCormack and Wheatley Halls, Healey Library, and Quinn. Much of the renovation involved adapting vacant spaces to accommodate programs from the Science Center. Metro Sign’s contribution to the project included providing wayfinding, directories, and ADA compliant signs. UMass Boston initially provided specifications for a higher-end fabrication. When it was determined that the initial sign design would exceed the funds allotted Metro stepped in to help. Understanding the

Types of Exterior and Interior Business Signs Pylon Signs Pylon signs are the large, freestanding signs that are meant to be seen from a distance. Intuitive Wayfinding Design Unveiled at Children’s Hospital

Browning says one of the most compelling aspects of the project was recognizing that the previous concourse was adding stress to users’ experiences. “We definitely improved the intuitiveness and added a calming sense,” he says. Furthermore, he says the project’s architectural language will be used when the main concourse is extended to connect to the new critical care building. In fact, designers have already started developing the addition’s wayfinding cues, starting with its animal character: a giraffe.

5 Business Benefits of Custom Interior Signs

When opening and running a business, one of the biggest mistakes people make is neglecting their interior signs. Avoid doing yourself this disservice: learn exactly how big a difference interior signs can make for your customers, visitors—and your bottom line. Why Interior Signs? You’ve realized already that most of your customers need some kind of outdoor sign to find your business. But, once customers or visitors have walked through your doors, interior signs take over. Serving as a kind of silent salesperson, guide, and reputation booster, the interior signs help you lead your visitors once they have gathered inside your store or business. Interior signs do this by performing one or more of five distinct functions. 1. Wayfinding Wayfinding signs

Soaring With the Eagles

The Boston College Eagles soared to new heights this year as the 156-year-old research university unveiled its new state-of-the-art recreation center. The 244,000-square-foot Margaret Connell Center is complete with something for everyone, from an elevated indoor track to a rock climbing wall and even a golf simulation room. We were honored and excited to collaborate on this facility with Skanska, the world’s fifth-largest construction company, as well as the project architect firm Cannon Design. Making a Lasting Impact We’re not too shy to say that our whole team was brimming with pride at the grand opening. It was spectacular to see the beautiful new amenities that Boston College’s student body would now enjoy. Metro Sign & Awning had done its

Grainmaker is Bowled Over with Our Signs

“I passed a new place and it looks pretty cool. We should try it.” How many times has a friend said this? You can’t judge a book by its cover, but you can gather a really favorable first impression from the outside of an eatery. Is it fun or fancy? Healthy or heart attack? Exterior design can be the first draw, even before the menu is posted. That was the case with a recent Metro Sign & Awning project.  Prior to Grainmaker opening a second location at 248 Elm Street in Somerville (the first one was at 91 Summer Street in Boston), owner Chris Freeman contacted us. Things were taking off for the young entrepreneur and he wanted to maintain

From its seamless look to its high performance in daylight, LED is changing minds among those who might have been resisting it as a fad or short-term trend. Among the most common reasons for pursuing LED screens are improved customer attraction and longevity of the equipment. Today’s LED solutions support retailers’ ads, video content, and more.

Lessons in Middle School Remodeling

Metro Sign & Awning

In 1989, the Quincy public school system made the “honor roll”. That’s when the broad, horseshoe-shaped brick home of South-West Junior High joined the National Register of Historic Places.  The classical revival trio of two-story pavilions at 444 Granite Street, designed by Shephard & Stearns architects in 1927, has since been a source of preservation pride for this southeastern Boston suburb. Today, the venerated building has a new name and a new look. And Metro Sign & Awning was able to contribute to the Reay E. Sterling Middle School’s modern revival. Metro Sign & Awning gets an A+ for bringing in the job. Their attention and participation in the bidding process was crucial and they worked to value engineer the
